Hayley Scamurra had a goal and three assists, while linemate Maddie Elia had two goals and an assist as the Buffalo Beauts took a 5-2 win over the Boston Pride at Warrior Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon. The win earned Buffalo a weekend split with Boston, after the Pride took a 4-1 victory on Saturday night.
Scamurra has now taken over the league points lead with 12 on the season, averaging two points per game.
The Beauts (3-3) struck twice in 1:33 midway through the first period, with Elia and Scamurra teaming up for both. Scamurra slid a pass across to Elia, who slotted it home for the 1-0 lead. Then moments later, Elia broke up a breakout pass and found Scamurra in front, who doubled the advantage.
Another quick burst of Buffalo goals – this time just 17 seconds apart – pushed the Beauts’ lead to 4-1. Elia used the power play to net her second of the game before Juliana Iafallo added one of her own with assists to Kelly Babstock and Corinne Buie.
Emily Pfalzer tacked on another for Buffalo 5:10 into the third period, with Scamurra picking up her fourth point of the day with an assist.
Jillian Dempsey then netted her third goal of the weekend 7:50 into the third, but it wasn’t enough to mount a Boston rally.
The Pride will return to action on Dec. 1 and 2, heading to Minnesota to take on the league-leading Whitecaps in a two-game series. The Beauts are off until Dec. 8, when they will host the Connecticut Whale at HarborCenter at 6 p.m.
